Digital-first publishing: streamline your editorial workflow between digital & print

We hosted an inspiring webinar on Wednesday 17 September (1–2pm) to explore fresh ways of working, smarter processes, and cutting-edge technologies.

Content management for digital and print channels had often been fragmented across different systems, missing opportunities for efficiency gains and cost savings.

We asked: what if there were a simple, effective way to connect and integrate workflows—seamlessly transferring content from digital to print—to optimise the entire process?

This was exactly what many Nordic media companies had already been doing, and we were delighted to host them in this webinar to share how they scaled workflows across channels.

Introducing the tools

CmsPublisher is a tool that integrates with WordPress, Labrador, MyType, and almost any CMS, to transfer content directly into InDesign. PageTrack is a tool for page and product management. Both are designed to be flexible and cost-effective, streamlining editorial workflows without locking you into a specific web CMS platform.

Real-world case studies

We were joined by Pirmediat Newspaper Group, which operates six weekly newspapers. They shared how they connected WordPress, PageTrack, and CmsPublisher to bridge the gap between digital and print—enabling their teams to work faster, smarter, and more collaboratively.

Ålandstidningen, the largest of two daily newspapers (including a website and app) for the Åland Islands, shared how they recently transitioned from a print-first to a truly digital-first model by changing both their CMS and DAM.

Attendees saw how these tools helped publishers modernise their workflows, reduce friction, and make the shift from print to digital with ease.

What attendees learned from the webinar:

  • How to cut production time using CmsPublisher
  • Best practices for building a digital-first workflow while maintaining full print control
  • Real-world case studies from Nordic publishers using Labrador or WordPress + CmsPublisher
  • Why open infrastructure (Linux, PostgreSQL, modularity) lowers cost and increases flexibility
  • How to integrate with third-party tools (including ad systems) or start small with standalone modules

Who attended:
Development managers, editorial professionals, and production leads looking to streamline content operations across platforms.duction Leads, IT and Workflow Specialists, and Media Executives seeking greater efficiency and lower operational costs.

Why publishers love these tools…
  • “We started using CmsPublisher together with Labrador CMS in October 2023. We turned our workflow to Digital First and cut our production time with 50%, web and print included! This solution is worth its weight in gold.”

  • “We are very satisfied with the CmsPublisher plug-in, the import of text and images from Labrador to InDesign, combined with good templates in InDesign is an enormous time-saver in print production.”

  • “Our staff would refuse to work without CmsPublisher!”

  • “We installed CmsPublisher this spring. This is a link between our Labrador CMS and InDesign, which is what we use to produce the paper edition. I like that the things we write in Labrador immediately show up in the CmsPublisher, and that I can just pull it onto the InDesign page with all the images and everything in the same place. In comparison to what we did before, this system has improved our workflow immensely.”
